I'm rather hoping yuan actually merges with his past but also maintains a bit of his original kindness. that he learns that sometimes cultivators must kill but also that it isn't necessary to always kill, using the knowledge of his past self to tell the difference. I really hope he doesn't become the typical cultivation MC after assimilating his past life. though he could stand to lose a little innocence.
I know most like the ruthless Yuan, but personally I prefer his kinder self. His past self feels like a typical xianxia mc - repay virtue with virtue but whatever grievance with death. Yuan may need to be sufficiently ruthless to survive in xianxia world but Yuan has his own values. If those values disappear without a reasonable and gradual development, it will be like killing Yuan's personality.
to be honest this is a very cheap way to force him to mature and understand how the world works. But at least it's better than a Time skip it. I mean it would be better if we actually had some contacts on what he was actually saying instead of a brief summary like I would have enjoyed a chapter of watching his past self actually desperately fight eat to the death so that we can understand why he needed desperation in order to breakthrough but that was kind of glossed over.
Urgh I hate this type of story line the most. A character without agency that is bound to memories or reincarnation is so tiring to read. I want to be engaged, where they make their own decisions and deal with their problems. When they lose control or are influenced the story stops being interesting and you become a passenger, and nothing matters anymore until author gets it out of their system.
