Honestl, you would expect more from a god which lived for hundreds of thousands of years. The point in aging is gainung experience, surely he has witnessed a few betrayels from either his kind or mortals. I refuse to believe their world is all rainbows and unicorns. Besides, mental power is mental strength. Why on earth could he kill one of the oldest and strongest one without being able to control himself. Even if it’s to give the protagonist more challenges, but how could there be no better alternative.
