Would have made more sense for him to infect them with a "Curse" that infected them like zombies but delayed the turn until after they reported the situation. It would have been perfect for them to turn and attack/infect their colleagues right after getting called crazy idiots for that report. That would have been the only decent way to announce his arrival on earth considering the virus would spread on it's own and it would allow him more time to control things from the shadows.

You said it was her 80th birthday literally two chapters ago so how is she 76 now?
