weird, i understand the lack of manpower but they treat the kids like trash...imagine if more than half the kids that are born die when they reach 16. the highest mortality rate in the world is 1/10 kids which causes the people to have more kids. you are talking about a 1/2 kids dying at the age of 16 and probably more later on do to losing control or from war. would you really ruin a generation just to lessen the pressure? then again we know nothing of the outside world as of yet so maybe we will get to understand the situation way better later on.

I have literally no idea what's going on. there's no information about the outside world and no information about the war that's going on no clear information on who is who and what whose relationship is to who. I just have to guess.
