as i understand in the usa police arent obligated to risk their lives for anybody and if a woman like her approached in selinas situation most likely in the usa she wuld of been shot for makeing the officer belive his/her life was in danger

i know he got a lot of critique for his priorities. but not many people understood that to save people, you have to save yourself first. for example, you have to be a strong swimmer and confident to survive the water, before you can go in the water to safe other people in trouble there. in this case, if he stop to save brenda, their possibilities to survive drop. so he is saving his partner first. and in saving his partner and running away, the monsters will follow them too, thus Brenda's chance of surviving increases.

Their camaraderie seems good but it's their job to protect people. According to laws and various guidelines, preference is always given to civilians first. But I'm just gonna assume things are different in this fictional world.
