ignoring the guy who commented before me. Jake is just starting off as one so he doesn't have the experience needed to make an object just yet he's still learning the necessary symbols and how to do spells. meanwhile Hades has been making trinkets for over 150 years he knows the craft even though he isn't in the same profession. so it's easier for Jake to get things from him and then modify it before embarking on the path of creation. and even then it's already clear that he's going to be focusing on genetics rather than machinery. so while it's not impossible for him to make something later on when he has the time to learn right now that's just not a possibility probably won't be for a while
