The author probably forgot unfortunately. Happens a lot with these type of web novels, where the author was writing almost every day. We will probably hear that it was an apocalypse gate companion beast that was willing suppressed by the earth rules all this time but will someone gain back all its strength. Think of the deer that conveniently as Zhou Wen did, because Zhou Wen couldn't sense his level till he got stronger.
So the new thing for Apocalypse grade is New World. Judging by the name, an Apocalypse should be able to restructure or remake an existing world. So starting a zombie apocalypse would be transforming the world but not destroying it. Also since the concept of a world is vague, there's probably a lot of different ways a New World can exert power.
