Yu Junghyeok's choice may seem incompatible at first, since it was always expressed in the story how he wanted to 'kill' and end the Most Ancient Dream but when you read it again... it really shows Kim Dokja's bias. He always felt guilty about how he heavily depended on Junghyeok's story to live on and projected it into the narration. Dokja has always been an unreliable narrator and it stays true until the end. Really, Dokja is one piece of work. He's even willing to kill his younger self for atonement. Does he even think about how his companions will be able to live throught that if he succeeded?! Dokja, you suicidal bastard, stop it!! And sure, Junghyeok may have wanted to kill the Most Ancient Dream at one point in time, but as he pointed out in this chapter, younger!Dokja is his sponsor. And that means they have a sponsor-incarnation relationship that enables them to share feelings and impressions with each other. This really adds another whole dimension to their interactions and motivations. I wonder how much of their feelings are actually rebounded between the two of them, and how it affected them? The increased levels of angst and depression between the two of them suddenly gain a deeper meaning. The last lines of this chapter were really great! Younger!Dokja's salvation and Junghyeok actually managing to save someone by the end of his story – it really is a beautiful conclusion for them.
Hmm, I want to give my own opinion of my beloved character Kim Dokja view or thought. To be honest when Kim Dokja said “That's right, I'm a monster.” you can feel the sadness and resentment towards himself but to me you aren't a monster because you willing to sacrifice yourself every single time since the beginning just like a hero. The feeling that myself get for you is a hero just like Yu Jung-Hyeok to you when your are little. It honestly hurts me a lot when Kim Dokja willing to end(well you understand »Kill«) his younger self because you can see how strongly he view himself. ⸢A tragedy with nothing special about it. At most, it was a tragedy that occurred to just one life.⸥ but a tragedy is still a tragedy, no matter how small it's compared to ‘Secretive Plotter’ but to be completely honest Kim Dokja tragedy is worst than Yu Jung-Hyeok. Why? Because it happened when he was still a child and the impact is large as you can see and no one was there for him but at least for Yu Jung-Hyeok still got someone to company and believe in. For the elder view it's not much but in the view of child it's too much to handle. [[….Is that why you needed us? This is a very cruel request for help, indeed.]] it's indeed a truly very cruel request for help but [[You couldn’t even control your own imagination, is that it?]] as you can read it's truly not younger Kim Dokja fault as dream can never be truly been control nor can he the younger Kim Dokja imagination the worst to happen or want the suffering to happen. [[Even without <Star Stream>, the world remains the same.]] yes, it would be just the same and if Kim Dokja didn't read the story it can happen to someone or anyone that read the story until end once day but I glad it's Kim Dokja not just anyone. So I love Kim Dokja character the most than anyone but at the same time, I hate him for willing to kill himself because I understand that feeling too well.
Aight Ima need to rant, so read at your own risk: First of all; BOI– Second; I dont know whether Dokja is suicidal or not (the answer is suicidal lol) because I stg you keep dying at any chance you got dude, I know you felt somewhat responsible for this. You want YJH to regress and feel more pain, for you can either escape from your own pain and maybe (just maybe?) to have someone to relate with. I get it. I totally do. Life is shit and sometimes I read novels or comics like this to escape reality and see how someone aside from me solve their problems, reach their goal, and be successful and all. So yeah I do get how you feel but doesnt it feel selfish of you? Because... Third; I dont know whether your selfish or selfless (totally both) But didnt you think of the people with you? Your COMPANIONS! Your MOTHER! The faith the Constellations give to you, hell they even risk their life just for you to see the ending and be "safe and happy" SAFE AND HAPPY NOT DEAD AND DEAD! And think about how much trauma your companions will have when they see their friend, their most trusted person, and their father like figure die infront of them! I understand you have to do "that" but just like SP said, you dont need to kill the person, DONT KILL YOURSELF! That may be the ending you want(?) but think about the ending your companions want! Remember saying you want all you guys to live in a big house, REMEMBER THAT? Remember what Sangah said when she was still in the library? To live near each other, eating YJH cooking together, bringing Gilyoung and Yoosung to school, remember those Dokja? REMEMBER?! I doubt you did. Which makes you both selfless (having an ending were you only die, hence sacrificing urself) and selfish (having an ending were you only die, hence traumatizing your friends) AND FOURTH; I dont hate you Dokja, I just hate how you think you dont deserve love, how you dont deserve happiness, nor deserve to be living. Your wrong, you are an amazing person and dont let all those negative stuff in your head. You bring happiness to your friends, to the Constellations and to me & all the other readers. So if you start speaking or acting like this again, I will jump into this book and smack you in the head. Anyways that was my rant, dont get me wrong, Im not hating on this book, hell Im just releasing all the pent up energy I kept because of how amazing and well written this book is. So yeah, conclusion is: that be so hard on yourself Dokja.
I didn’t understand SP’s choice on my first read through. It seemed far too idealistic, as if he could forget the pain and suffering of so many lifetimes. But reading again, it becomes very clear how much Dok-Ja’s bias stains the narrative. Ultimately, the original story was of a man cursed with never being able to save anyone and a child cursed to dream that story in order to save himself. And by breaking that dream, not only has SP saved that child from a never-ending nightmare, he has also saved himself. It’s a choice Dok-Ja as a reader could never understand, and I couldn’t understand it when reading from his perspective either. Dok-Ja may view this as a world where he got lucky at every turn, but until he stopped reading WoS revisions after his second Great Fable (Torch That Swallows the Myth), his solution has always been to sacrifice himself. Only after escaping from being a Reader, in which the only world with a happy ending he could imagine was one where he died, and becoming a Character did he survive and could imagine new Fables. Yet by letting go of being a reader, he doomed the world he originally imagined to halt. By this world’s design, Dok-Ja was never meant to receive a happy ending. So I can only hope that his companions can find the third road now that he’s lost his own way to find it…
