It's starting to get stupidly annoying and naive for Anthony to think he can just walk into the city, destroy the teleportation gates and leave with no consequence whatsoever. U're a monster!, An ant monster!!, And a freaking sentient one at that!!! It's ridiculous. Him holding on to his notion of not wanting to kill the humans, when any sapient race! would eradicate him and his colony on sight if found is stupid . I'm starting to wish he loses at least half of the colony in this war so he can finally grow up! Also the city under could be the legion city, gonna be interesting đ.
The human city nearby is legion territory. The legion has just been pulled into the extermination campaign by the kiwi rock people. War with the Legion is already upon the ants. It would have been nice for the Golgari to try to fight alone and not ask for help until things got difficult. That would have given the colony more time to grow, but since they called for back-up right away the only option is to disrupt the legions supply line and delay the marshaling of their forces. Of course, the ants do not know this, but luckily Anthony fears the gates enough to want to destroy them. Which coincidently has the possible outcome of weakening any legion âfirst responseâ. Their second strike will be harsher but one can argue that they would have always redoubled their efforts after failing. The choice to go soft on the population is âquestionableâ though. Since he has committed the ants to an âunprovokedâ attack, their justification in future negotiations will be very shaky. Unless he attempts peaceful communications simply as pretense, this whole incident will make his road to peace more difficult. Without some form of theatre, diplomacy will always fail. The best strategy for the ants is feigning a âdefensive warâ while building might beyond what the sapient races deem âreasonably assailableâ. The cut off point where sapient races choose to stop spending their resources on killing ants is moved based on the perceived threat from the ants. Ant colonies have high threat so they justify massive mobilizations. Sapient Ants are an even greater threat and justify the mobilization and formation of war economies. The stronger Anthonys colony gets, the greater the cost required to exterminated it. Yet that does not necessarily increase threat alone. With enough diplomacy the threat level can reduce while at the same time the âcostâ of war and increase. Anthony must get the colony to the point where its threat is minimal. While at the same time it costs everything every nation has at their disposal to destroy them. This is a very long road, every little step adds up, it will also require demonstrations of their might so that the true cost of extermination is conveyed. For example, if the races knew that they had 3 nests and over half a dozen queens and that such an expansion took 1 month, that is a display of might that changes the cost of war immeasurably. Now isnât the best time to give away details of the ants economy, but as the war drags on and negotiations approach, thats the time to let them gaze into the depths of horror.
