The Academy Size: 3 (big enough for lecture halls, research facilities, and dorms) Defense: 2 (should withstand surprise attacks till the rest of the fleet can reinforce) Mobility: 2 (same as above) Productivity: 3 (lots of foot traffic and work happening in the academy with all the research and pilot training) This is a medium size ship that houses the LC’s academies for budding mech designers and mech pilots. The one stop shop designs ensures that the designers and pilots work and grow together by interacting with each other. Since the ship holds the youth of the LC it needs to be sufficiently reinforced and battle ready to manoeuvre out of difficult situations in a moments notice. The ship also works as a think tank for graduated apprentice designers who are struggling with advancements. But taking inspirations from students and maybe getting involved in some research. For pilots the academy can be a way to scout promising talent. For instance the expert pilots look for more people to join their retinue and if they find a student with matching ideals and potential, they can sponsor them. Even the different regiment in the clan can recruit from here.

ANNOUNCEMENT: CAPITAL SHIP DESIGN CONTEST! The Mech Touch is over 2500 chapters long, and that means the start of another contest! This contest centers around the capital starships that will form an integral part of the Larkinson Clan's expeditionary fleet. STARSHIP DESIGN RULES Suggest any ORIGINAL capital ship of at least 1 km long to be added to the fleet mentioned above (no ripoffs from other books or shows)! You can suggest any large starship to be added to the story as long as they sound plausible. Mining ship, ark ship, botanical ship, the choice is yours! The only restriction is that it cannot be armed with weapons, so no warships! The other restriction is that you must allocate the strengths of your capital ship according to a point system. You have 10 POINTS in total which you can add to the following criteria: -Size (?/10) -Defense (?/10) -Mobility (?/10) -Productivity (?/10) Here is a short example: Mining Mothership -Size: 5 - Has enough space for mining shuttles, cargo space and processing facilities. -Defense: 0 - This ship should never be exposed to combat. -Mobility: 1 - This ship is very slow. -Productivity 4 - This ship can survey asteroids and can process ore at a moderate scale. OBSERVATIONS AND TIPS ON SHIP DESIGN After evaluating many different ship designs, I have encountered various mistakes and misunderstandings that detract from the score of your submission. In the worst case, your ship design may even be disqualified. Here is a short guide on what you should pay attention to to increase your score: Excessive high technology/spiritual technology While I allow some leeway into adding advanced technology or sophisticated spiritual engineering in your ship design, try to add as little as possible, and not more than necessary. Don't let your fantasies go wild. You must provide the MOST VALUE for the LEAST COST. Higher Productivity = Better Tech If you want to add more advanced tech in your ship, then make sure to raise the Productivity score of your ship. I judge your ship harder if there is more tech, but I am more forgiving if the Producitivity score is higher. Identity/Character/Charm I don't want generic ship designs that I can invent myself. No matter what kind of features you add to your ship design, it has no life if there is no story or strong identity. What I want is not a collection of parts, but a ship with class. Think of iconic products such as the DeLorean, the iPhone, the Millenium Falcon, and so on. They have value beyond just their hardware. They have a story and they are larger than life. Your ship design should also have this quality to score high. Specialization and Purpose I am not looking for ship designs that claim to do everything or perform multiple unrelated roles. It has to have a clear primary purpose and its functions and parts should all aim towards enhancing its ability to perform this purpose. While you can add multiple roles and purposes to your ship, it must be tied to a cohesive thought or vision. Also, if your ship just have a single purpose and can just do one thing, then the ship design is too generic and one-dimensional. Capital ships are expensive and cumbersome. They need to provide comprehensive value to the Larkinson Clan. Marketing Your Ship Design Try to put yourself in the shoes of a ship marketer trying to squeeze a ship order out of Ves. You need to come up with a ship design that is attractive enough for Ves to invest a huge amount of money and resources into it. In order to do this, you need to: 1: Study market demand (What functions do the Larkinsons want? What functions do the Larkinsons need? What are they missing?) 2: Know your customer (What is the budget of the Larkinsons? How much are they willing to spend? What ships and assets do they already have?) After figuring this out, look to what you can provide to satisfy the demands of the customer. Try to come up with a ship design that does the job efficiently and without excessive bloat or unnecessary functions. However, as the Larkinsons have a lot of choice, your ship design must be attractive. Try to wrap your product into an attractive package. Market it by crafting a story and unique identity around it. Use themes to spice up your ship and differentiate it from generic ship designs. Numbers Don't nerd out too much or pull out your calculator by specifying exact numbers. Just give a general range. I will specify the exact numbers (ship length, amount of mechs it can carry, how many production lines it carries, how many people it can crew, etc.) myself if your submission wins. Fun I don't like boring ship designs. Your ship design must be interesting or intriguiging. It has to be exciting and a joy to read about if you are a reader. I need something more than 'just' a boring fleet carrier, mining ship, hospital ship, etc. Retry If you have scored low and are not satisfied with your submission, you can just DELETE your comment and submit AGAIN in the same location. Used by the clansmen and the outsiders as an mech and infantry arena, for hunting some of the exobeasts around the vicinity with authorization of the clan or as a testing ground for Ves when the park is closed for outsiders. It houses the Clan’s Casino, that is also used for placing bets on the games or collecting prizes/medals for the hunt, and auctions of special and expensive things, especially exclusives of the Living Star Club.

Ship Name: All Nine Lives - Type: Combat Repair and Salvage Size 0/10 - 1km, and light weight has few critical systems and skeleton crew: FTL drives, small Carrier bay, extending frame and large engines located on the sides of the middle of the ship. Defense 3/10 - Not impressive, only critical systems have extra armor plating. Not mean to take concentrated fire. Mobility 6/10 - Above average speed by itself, if the ships it is clamped onto has working engines both are much faster. Productivity 3/10 - Launches repair/salvage tugs or clamps over larger ships to move them Extremely mobile salvage/tug ship designed to quickly repair/bandage fallen frontline ships just enough to get them moving to the back battle lines to more relative safety. (Think combat medic rather than hospital surgeon) Can extend down the middle lengthwise over other larger capital ships and clamps them like a vise (insert fancy shield cushioning tech here) to move them with massive side engines. Carries several salvage tugs that can either to make critical repairs on non capital ships or take the risk to pickup valuable blown off ship parts and exotics mid battle to take to the other supply/depot ships in the fleet.

Ship Class – Val’morac (2nd Class Science Capital Ship) Role (Exploratory research and survey vessel) (*has been used as an EW role*) Ship Name –  Val'estia (commonly referred to as "The Val")  Originally a private commission for Val’canis Corp’s frontier exploratory fleet by senior shipwright Isaac Friedman. the Val’morac had a specific requirements it needed to full-fill. Val’canis Corp needed a Ship capable of housing all its science personnel on frontier expeditions and survive . Well small for a capital ship it is still a potent package today being (****) years old design. At its conception it was deemed excessive but as decades have gone by has proven that longevity and survivability are never a poor investment.  It is not uncommon to get these ships on the used market as their past successful owners move on to better ships.   The ship vaguely resembles a catfish from Earth if not the tail being replaced with two massive Bill-Nyx Driver Systems in aft nacelles . Faster than any ship its size (had any right to be) was one of the primary requirements of its design. Its most expensive feature is dual FTL drives.  It had to be able to avoid or out run potential hazards in the frontier with redundancy being key. Many future owners have ordered this ship without the second FTL drive (or stripped and sold it) not seeing the need if the ship is adequately escorted or not entering the frontier. It goes almost without saying that those using the ship for its intended purpose in the frontier keep the second FTL drive. Built to house an extensive and powerful sensor suit and labs.  lots of hull space was dedicated to sensor arrays resembling fish fins(retractable). These have been used by many owners to further science but also to help defend fleets it is part of as an EW platform of great power. The sensor system originally fitted to this ship well second class is derived from a first class system with substituted components to avoid licencing issues and decrease costs. Some have tried to restore this system to its first class origins but none have admitted if they achieved it. This lets the Val’morac punch above it weight well saving on the overall cost.   Another unusual feature is this ships large array of science probes using the so called INDEX system. The INDEX system is used to survey enter systems in the least amount of time in great detail as an expanded system covering sensor network. They can be recalled but most owners tend to leave them out as an add-hawk system network. A few have even gone to the expense of upgrading one probe to be able to send collective data even after leaving the system for future study or warning These probes designed to be  made mostly from common low-grade/junk exotics are expendable and easily replaced by the ships internal fabricators. Many a owner has expressed their appreciation for the INDEX system for how much time/assets it has saved them.   The top deck of this ship is given over to a massive combination hydroponics/terrarium that extends the ships life support systems for extended expeditions. An exo- botanist dream for studying life in the frontier.  Modelled to look like a planetary environment with several pathways and external view projections through out this deck make it ideal for crew to relax and try to forget they are on a ship instead of a planet on extended expeditions. (gives the illusion they are taking a night time stroll on a planet).   The rest of the space In the ship is given over to all the science disciplines needed in frontier exploration(and exploitation). One thing many owners of this class of ship have wish for though was that they had allocated more space for the crew compliment as quarters are often considered 3rd rate. Many owners have remedied this by removing the second FTL drive to make more space for the crew and other things of interest. 1/2 second part in comments

I mean imagine you are in bed with the "nice girl" Jannzi, now try to imagine the same experience with Ketis. Who do you think leaves you exhausted with claws and bites marks wanting for more and thinking about any other place than a bed for intercourse among the two? The Terrarium - working name/description "Because the fun science isn't always safe." An LFA built science vessel that embodies the core philosophies of the LFA. Who else but a bunch of crazed scientists would build a capital ship sized science vessel? size -3 defence -1 mobility - 2 productivity -4 Acquired in the LFA the Terrarium is a ship teaming with life. Plants are everywhere and fake stone and clever use of plants, simulated skies, and water features mean that the designer has tried to make everything as close to nature as possible. Even the floors of the main hallways are covered in a genetically modified grass that only grows a 3" high and is extremely resistant to damage. Vines grow on many walls and trellis and the ship produces a surprising amount of produce as a byproduct.. If you don't mind the fact that everything is genetically modified in sone way. There is also a distinct possibility that sone vines may be traps for boarders.... The core of the ship contains two large oval shaped biomes. One is a humid jungle and the other is an ocean with a beach. They are populated with a variety of both exo-beasts and plants. While limited in size clever projections and the use of wave generators make the spaces seem far larger than they are. The beach is kept as a safe area while the jungle is defined as "relatively safe" by the scientists. Water features such as fountains and streams are not uncommon throughout and the ship. Wandering through it's alcoves feels like being on a planet. In some of the alcoves you can find statues, fountains, or totems. The truth is though that while part of the ship feels like a resort and is often used for rest and recuperation, the ship is primarily a science vessel. It contains multiple labs, growing areas designed to accommodate any plants or exo-beasts, and even a workshop devoted to organic mechs. It carries powerful sensors, decent armor, and a decent number of bunkers for bunker mechs and hosts a single company of land bound mechs for "collection duties" The designer knew that any scientist that wanted a capital ship was at least a little nuts and wanted to explore the frontier. Plus science vessels of this size were prime targets for pirates. It has a larger than average docking bay because noone knows what sort of crazy "specimens" the scientists will drag back next time. While not a hospital ship it also features a quite capable medical wing because as we all know "The fun science isn't always safe." (The ship hosts plenty of exobeasts. Some of which are well trained for defense... I mean it's basically an lair for a bunch of "evil scientists"... I wouldn't recommend boarding it.)

Ship Design Submission: Name: The Living Bulwark Size: 0- This ship only barely qualifies as a capital ship Mobility: 3- This ship is mobile enough to not be a hindrance to the rest of the fleet whilst being surprisingly agile in a mech battle Defence: 7- This Ship has strong anti-mech defensive capabilities. Its defence geared design would even allow it to survive a modest confrontation with lower spec first tier mechs for a limited time. Productivity: 0- This ship is not geared towards production Concept: This ship has two interchangeable configurations. Travel Mode and Battle Mode. Battle mode allows it to unfold into a structure whose function would be similar to a capital ship sized starfighter that is geared purely towards defence. It can either be used for holding a position or advancing. *Key* : This structure can be used as modular cover/support for LC Mechs in a battle which supports and/or empowers/ Harmonises with Living Mechs in some way.

The Excalibur - aka Ves’ Fist -Size: 2 - Used to store most of if not all of the Avatars of Myth to respond to threats and a meeting place that incorpates a specialized training course for the Avatars of Myth and Ves’ glows -Defense: 4- Armor is made up of a formula that incorporates a light blend of premium second class exotics with generic second class materials as the foundartion, Ves could make a request to add some unending alloy into the mix to add a glow. Features bunkers and fortified heavy mech placements -Mobility: 3 - A mobile ship that specializes in Skirmishing thanks to its modular set of engines. Its speed is moderate to somewhat a tad bit slower compared to other ships of its size, but what makes it special is that it incorporates multiple FTLs engines(3-5 sets) to cycle the cooldowns. Thus allowing it to make multiple jumps into a suprise attack and to escape from recon missions if ambushed. Ves might want to change the replace the engines depending on the location so the engines are specifically modular for that purpose -Productivity: 1- The main aim of the ship is to jam tracking for a reasonable time by either clearing up energy signatures,launching decoys that Points to different star systems, or creating a large smokescreen With particles that scrambles tracking in a system ranging around 2-3 days. A ship meant to slice through and away Danger and to breathe right after.

The Nomad's Rest Size: 8 Defense: 0 Mobility: 1 Production: 1 Description:It's less of a ship and more of a moving space station tbh. Due to the Larkinson nomadic lifestyle, it's hard to get to trading with people without prolonged harboring. This ship is meant to facilitate trade while on the move. It's large size allows shuttle and small ships to safely dock within it's confines while it's modular structures allow the establishment of booths.

Ship type: Carrier vessel – Astraeus class Ship Name: The Bird's Nest Size: 5 (A truly enormous Ship, featuring multiple hangars, a massive dry dock and ample storage space) Defense: 1 (not meant for combat, features some extra protection for the FTL drive and engines to avoid being crippled due to some lucky potshots) Mobility: 1 (among the slower ships of the fleet) Productivity: 3 (capable of extensive repairs for shuttles and small star ships, NOT capable of building ships from scratch) Astraeus class carriers are an old favorite among seasoned frontier veterans and those who venture even further into the unknown. It carries all kinds of ships that are incapable of FTL travel themselves, yet critical for the survival of any fleet, like stealth shuttles, fast scout ships or armored drop ships. The most striking difference between the third and the second class version of the carrier would undoubtedly be the inclusion of a massive dry dock, which allows for near star-port level of repairs and maintenance for any non capital-sized ship accompanying its fleet. It is even capable of performing an FTL jump while carrying another, possibly damaged, ship in its dry dock, although this comes with an exceedingly high fuel cost. Despite it being somewhat smaller than a similar prized carriers, many a starship captain (and there crew) has come to appreciate the extra protection afforded to its engines and FTL drive. It will not fall behind as long as it is properly defended by other ships and mechs.

Flyer Space-4 3 Km, Large complexes, Laboratories, Startup facilities, Mechs (30), Shuttles hangers, Mini Ship Defence-1 Not intended for combat survival but for taking cover behind the combat fleets. Speed-2 Just enough to keep up with other capital ships during regular travel of the Parkinson Family. Productivity-3 Facilities for the training of students who want to become Ship Builders, Mech Designers, Bio researchers, Entrepreneurs etc. Business initiation facilities. Description- This ship is intended to diversify the income resources of the Larkinson clan in the future. So, this ship has two functional blocks. One is training block and another startup block. Training block has a variety of basic training facilities in different fields of Art, Music, Economics, Science, Engineering and Biotechnology etc, to guide the Larkinsons to a different field. However, only five fields Mech Design, Ship Design, Medical field(Humans), Biotech(Plants) and Business Management have advanced training facilities. And this ship doesn't have any sort of combat training facilities like infantry and mech piloting. Business block has space for starting new businesses, workshops and R&D facilities. This ship is a public ship where allies of the clan can come to take services of the businesses here. And youngsters from allies can study here.
