sixteen - "patricia" - sixteen

Derek was concerned about his teenage daughter. She seemed depressed. After he and Addison revealed their divorce, Anna kept to her bed. He tried to get her involved in things, reminding her that exercising would be good for her blood sugar, but she refused to leave the trailer. It's been three days since she came home and she hasn't been the same since.

"Wanna go to the hospital with me today?" Derek sat down at the end of her bed, "Or you can spend the day with your mom?"

"She's not my mom anymore, remember? You're divorced."

"Anna." Derek sighed, "You can't stay here alone and spend the whole day in bed. It's not healthy."

"Who cares."

"I care. That's why you're getting up. Come on. Up." Derek grabbed her blankets and flung them back, "Look, Anna, it's the sun."

"Just go to work." Anna whined.

"No, I'm gonna be late." Derek stood, "Get up and get ready. We're leaving."

"Dad."

"I won't tell you again, Anna. Get up now."

Anna, Alex, Izzie, Cristina, George, and even Meredith, all sat down in the basement. They sat in a silence as George worried about his father who was admitted and, apparently, not in good condition.

Anna thought of something to say, to distract everyone, "They're getting divorced. For real, this time."

Everyone looked at her.

"Wow." Cristina said.

"Wow." Izzie repeated.

"No offense, Meredith, but I'm never calling you mother," Anna said, making them all laugh.

"Marriage?" Meredith whispered, shuddering, "No... no."

"Oh, come on," Izzie laughed, bumping her shoulder against Meredith's, "You know you wanna marry McDreamy and play stepmommy."

"Izzie!" Anna groaned, "What did we say about calling him when I'm around?!"

Eveyone laughed again. George shook his head, holding back a smile.

"Did you check your blood sugar?"

Anna groaned, already annoyed with constantly hearing this question. She nodded, "Yeah, dad. It's normal."

"You better not be lying. I'm checking your meter every night." He warned.

"Why would I lie about that?"

"When's the last time you ate?" Derek asked her, "You have to eat, Anna. Your metabolism can throw off everything if you're not eating right."

"Dad. I know."

"I'm taking my lunch now. Come eat with me."

Anna grabbed her bag and followed her father into the cafeteria where she got some actual food. Once she checked her blood sugar again, and calculated the amount of carbohydrates for her insulin dosage (with the help of her dad), she was able to eat. They sat down inside the hospital, and suprisingly, there weren't a lot of people in the hospital cafeteria.

"How's George's dad?" Anna asked.

"You know, I can't tell you that."

Anna rolled her eyes, "I didn't mean it like that."

"You'll have to ask George. I'm not on the case, but I know he's not feeling well." Derek said.

Anna nodded, looking down at her plate, "What's with Mark? Is he staying in Seattle now?"
