Cracks in the Perfect Mask

"You're tellin' me that there might be a spy among us?" Snipe asked.

The teachers of U.A. High all looked concerned as their meeting over the events from the day prior began. Shota nodded his head at Snipe's question.

"I believe so, although we can't prove it yet, it's the most obvious reason. Those villains were specifically after All Might, they even figured he would've been at the U.S.J. at that time." Aizawa confirmed.

"Even so... How would we know if there's a spy? We can't turn our backs on one another because of it. Without proper evidence, it's just an assumption, Aizawa." Midnight commented.

Snipe leaned back in his chair, "Ya know, it's kinda weird 'ow that kid from the States came in and this all started happenin'."

"He's kinda got a point, Shota." Present Mic chimed in.

"If that was the case, his parents would be in on it as well, I don't think that's the reason why they came to Japan. It's highly illogical for him to be the culprit, especially after what happened at the U.S.J. He wouldn't have attacked Shigaraki or the Nomu, if he did, his attacks would've been faked to some extent." He argued.

The meeting soon concluded, leaving the U.A. Staff and people of Japan with more questions than answers. After a brief closing of U.A. High, the students returned to school the next day after the U.S.J. Incident. The students were still trying to process what occurred days prior.

"So... What are we gonna do now? Are we gonna have to worry about villains popping up everywhere we go?" Jiro fretted.

"I hope not! That would be super scary!" Hagakure responded.

"You're invisible though, Hagakure, you should be the least concerned." Mina remarked.

Alyx moved a pencil between his fingers, "All that matters is that we're alright. If I'm gonna be honest, I would've killed those villains if it came to keeping you all safe."

"Woah, seriously dude? That's like... Non-Hero stuff though!" Kirishima commented.

"If it had to come down to it, I wouldn't have cared, Kirishima. I know that's a little over the top but that's just my belief. I can't let something like Vegas happen again." Leonidus replied.

The classroom door slid open and everyone quieted down as Aizawa entered the room. Everyone watched as he slowly walked to the front of the room, his lethargic eyes glanced over each of the students.

"Good Morning everyone, glad to see you're all alright. Today we'll be talking about something different. Soon, you'll be participating in the U.A. Sports Festival, a competition that thousands of people across Japan tune in to watch." Shota greeted.

"M-Mr. Aizawa, are you sure about that? Why not just wait until things cool down?" Kaminari questioned.

"The Sports Festival is one of the most watched event in the world, there will be plenty of Pro Heroes in attendance as well, it's most likely the safest place in Japan. You won't have to worry about any surprise villain attacks. We'll make sure of it." He reassured him.

The tension in the room lessened after Shota's reassurance. Aizawa looked over towards Leonidus, who still held an ounce of worry on his face.

[Several Hours Later...]

As the bell for lunch rang, everyone began getting ready to leave, Aizawa tapped Alyx on the shoulder.

"Hey, I'd like to talk to you for a second." He told him.

Leonidus nodded and the two waited for everyone to leave the room. Alyx sat down in front of Aizawa's desk.

"I guess I shouldn't hide it, but I've been thinking a lot about what happened at the U.S.J., how those villains found us and expected All Might to be there? You don't think that someone here's spreading information, right?" Alyx worried.

"I'm afraid so, that's what we hypothesized during our meeting yesterday. We don't have any evidence to support it yet, however, it wouldn't surprise me if that's what's going on here." Shota agreed.

"If you do find whoever it is, I need you to promise me something, please help them out. Whatever they've been thrown into, I'm certain they don't mean any of it." Leonidus pleaded.

Shota nodded back at Alyx, he then dismissed him to head to lunch, Leonidus made his way down to the cafeteria where he got his food then sat down at a table.

"Finally! We were just wondering about you!" Uraraka giggled.

"Yeah, apologies about that, I talked to Mr. Aizawa about something. Did I miss anything?" Alyx smiled.

"Well, we were just discussing the Sports Festival, it'll be a wonderful opportunity to showcase our skills!" Iida replied.

"Yeah, there's even a tournament at the end of the event!" Uraraka commented.

Leonidus looked a bit curious, "Kinda like a martial arts tournament? That sounds awesome!"

"Easy for you to say, you've got super strong Quirks as it is, not a whole lot of us can compete with you." Jiro chimed in.

"Eh, not as much as you'd think actually! There's plenty of good counters to my Quirks, that is, if you know what they are. I think Deku already knows? Speaking of him, where is he?" Alyx disagreed.

"He's eating lunch with All Might, I'm not too sure why though." Ochako informed him.

Leonidus activated his Overdrive in his right hand, "During the tournament, I'll restrict myself to using Gear One, if I go too rough I'm afraid I might hurt you guys!"

Alyx looked over and saw relieved looks on everyone's faces. He narrowed his eyes and gave a look of disappointment.

"You guys seriously were hoping for me to do that, weren't you?" He asked.

"Yes!" Everyone exclaimed.

As they talked, the surrounding students secretly observed their prime competition. Class 1-A returned to their homeroom after lunch and continued their lessons like normal. When the school day ended however...

"Woah, you guys..." Kirishima called out.

The class looked and saw a swarm of others standing in front of their door. Katsuki stomped over to the door and tried pushing his way through but to no avail.

"COME ON! MOVE YOU GODDAMN EXTRAS! YOU'RE IN MY FUCKIN' WAY!" Bakugo raged.

"Hmph... Here I thought that the class that fought against villains would be more mature instead of bratty." A boy remarked.

Katsuki looked over at the purple haired kid, "The fuck did you call me?"

An arm moved out in front of Katsuki and the boy. He looked over and saw Alyx standing next to him. Bakugo stepped backwards out of curiosity as to what Leonidus was doing.

"Listen, we'd like to leave please, so if all of you could-" Alyx politely told them.

"As if, if we're gonna get a spot in the hero course, we're gonna scout out the weakest link. Clearly it's gotta be that blonde idiot next to you!" The boy interrupted.

Bakugo grit his teeth with anger as he looked over at Alyx. Leonidus stepped up close to the purple haired boy.

"I'm gonna tell you this right now, there's not a single soul in this hallway that can even come close to beating me, let alone putting a scratch on me. If you're wanting to take one of our spots, you're more than welcome to try it." Leonidus retaliated.

The boy smirked at Leonidus, "You know, I like you kid, judging by your demeanor you seem to mean it. See you at the Festival, Class A."

Alyx watched as the boy walked through the crowd of other students. The others quickly dispersed after him. Bakugo cackled as he watched them all walk away.

"Yeah! That's what I fuckin' thought!" Bakugo grinned.

"Wow... That was unexpected, Alyx." Mina told him.

"I just want to get home, that's all." Leonidus replied.

Alyx was the first to leave the room without saying another word. The class noted how quickly he left.

"What's wrong with him? He's been acting a bit shifty all day." Kirishima wondered.

"I don't know, he's been writing a lot of stuff down today as well, more so than usual. I got a glance over his notebook and it mentioned something about his Overdrive." Izuku responded.

Midoriya looked towards the door with concern on his face.

[Several Hours Later...]

Leonidus coughed up blood as beads of sweat dripped down his face, he was on the floor struggling to get up to his feet. His Father, Darren, rushed into the room after hearing a large "KABOOM".

"Alyx? What are you doing up this late at- What in the world is going on?!" Darren inquired.

He attempted to help Alyx up but he pushed his arm away, "I-I... I'm fine! I just..."

"How am I supposed to be as strong as you and Mom when I can't even defeat myself?!" Alyx shouted.

Darren looked up and saw the flickering hologram that stood in the middle of the training room. Alyx stumbled up to his feet, wiping blood off his chin and mouth.

"Why can't I get to Gear Three? And why can't I be as good as you..." Alyx sniffled.

"Is this what you've been doing? All of this time? Alyx..." Darren murmured.

He walked forward and hugged his son, "I'm so sorry, Alyx. I've placed a burden on you that I shouldn't have from the start. Getting stronger takes time, you know this, Alyx."

"But... I have to... In order to avenge Laura... I don't have time..." Alyx sobbed.

Darren comforted his son the best he could. He closed his eyes and remembered the journey he took much like his son's.

He thought.

Several days passed since Darren found Alyx in the training room, Alyx had not been at U.A. High since then. Leonidus stared at his ceiling as he watched his ceiling fan spin. His phone pinged with a message but he didn't bother to look at it. His door opened and his Mother stood in the doorway.

"Aren't you gonna get ready for school, dear?" Marie questioned.

"No. I'm not." Alyx deadpanned.

Leonidus' phone began to rang but he refused to answer it. Marie entered his room and answered it for him as he turned away.

"Hello...? Yes this is his Mother... Good Afternoon as well! Are you one of his school friends...? Uh huh... Yes, of course dear, I'll have him up there soon! Bye!" Marie answered.

Marie threw off his blanket and noticed the bloodied bandages around his arms and body. He slowly sat up, wincing in pain, he held his right arm as he sat up on his bed. Marie sat down next to him and rubbed his arm gently.

"I won't ever understand you boys, once you get something on your mind, you let it wear you down to the bone. What's on your mind, sweetheart?" Marie coaxed.

"They're scared of me, all of them, they're scared of my Quirks. We were talking about the Sports Festival and they were all relieved to hear that I wasn't going to use the full extent of my Quirks. I'm really some kind of freak, aren't I? Not to mention everything that happened in..." Alyx admitted.

"It's not your fault, Alyx." Marie interrupted.

Leonidus looked away from his Mother, "I know."

"No, it's ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฐ๐˜ต your fault. None of it is, honey." Marie continued.

Alyx kept quiet for a bit, Marie saw a tear fall down his face, she gently hugged him and brushed through his hair.

[30 Minutes Later...]

Alyx finally arrived at U.A., he slid open the Class A door, Aizawa was asleep on the ground in a sleeping bag. He woke up after hearing the door slide all the way open.

"Well, it's good to see you, Class Rep. If you're wondering where everyone's at, they're at the U.S.J., we've decided to change things up a bit, I told them I'd wait for you here if you showed up. I'm assuming they're heading back now." Aizawa greeted.

"And I'm assuming you've had quite a lot of sleep until now?" Alyx asked.

Shota began climbing out of his sleeping bag, "You'd be right, kid. You've missed quite a lot of work as well, but judging by what I was told by your Father, it's understandable."

"Yeah... I guess things just get into my head and stay there." He laughed a dry laugh.

"You really need to seek a therapist." Aizawa responded.

"That was a bit blunt..." Leonidus muttered.

Aizawa walked towards one of the classroom windows, "You know something, you've got some kind of effect on these students that I've never seen before. I'm not sure what it is, but it's like you're the light that keeps the class going. Almost like..."

Shota began to reminisce on an old friend, he looked back towards Alyx and saw him standing in Leonidus' place with a bright smile on his face. Aizawa walked over towards Alyx and put his hands in his pockets.

"You can't sulk in despair, Alyx, you'll get nowhere if you do that. Let me give you the best piece of advice I've gotten: 'Keep calm, carry on and don't you dare freeze up. Even when or if you screw up, just keep smiling like usual'. That's something that's stuck with me since, maybe not the smiling part, but that's besides the point. You can't keep your emotions bottled up either." Shota told him.

"Yeah, you're right, I guess that means I should start with what's been on my mind for a while. Thank you, Mr. Aizawa. I should get going-" Alyx gently smiled.

"Alyx!" Mina exclaimed.

Leonidus turned around and was hugged by Mina as the others rushed into the room.

"Where have you been man?!" Kirishima wondered.

"W-Well... I've been training and... I guess I've been bottling a lot of things up. You guys aren't scared of me, are you?" Alyx responded.

"What? No! Why would we be scared of you, Alyx? You're our Class Rep, that'd be silly, what made you think of that?" Hagakure disagreed.

Alyx looked at his right arm, "When I told you guys that I was only going to use Gear One during the Sports Festival tournament, you all looked so relieved, like my Quirks made me some kind of freak. Whenever I train, I do it to try and forget things, but it never seems to work. Which miiiiight be why I'm all bandaged up right now."

"Alyx," Yaoyorozu stepped forward, "We were relieved, yes, but it's not because of what you're thinking. You shouldn't feel the need to go all out against your classmates. That should only be reserved for villains!"

"Yeah! Your Quirks are amazing, seeing them in action would make anyone a bit cautious, but they belong to a gentle user. That's why we aren't scared, Alyx, isn't that right, Kacchan?" Izuku smiled.

"Tch... Don't drag me into this shit, you dumbass nerd." Katsuki grumbled.

Aizawa watched on as the students all crowded around Alyx and overwhelmed him with positivity.

"Should we take you to Recovery Girl or...?" Kaminari questioned.

"Oh, no! I can actually heal myself up, it does have it's negatives though, I use up my Overdrive a lot quicker if I heal my wounds constantly. Watch, I'll show you!" Alyx grinned.

He placed his hand on his chest, his entire body began to glow a bright blue as he healed himself. Alyx moved his arms around without problem.

"So, did you have anything else on your mind?" Momo asked.

"Yeah, as a matter of fact," Alyx replied to her, "There is one thing I've been thinking about. Since the stuff at the U.S.J., that Tomura guy smelled exactly like my Grandmother, it wouldn't surprise me if they came into contact."

"Huh? Who's your Grandma?" Sero inquired.

Alyx pulled his phone out to show them a picture, "Daniela Leonidus, she doesn't go by any fancy villain name. Hell, she even managed to brainwash my older brother into thinking I'm some sort of 'Golden Boy'."

"Phew, holy smokes, heelloo Grandma Leonidus! You sure she's your Grandma, bro? She looks like she's 23!" Kaminari swooned.

Everyone glared at Kaminari, he nervously smiled before succumbing to the pressure.

"Can you guys stop looking at me like that!?" He shouted.

"Anyways, she doesn't do her work alone, my family's familiar with her organization. There's a total of five other people in her group besides her. Those being Black-Heart, Gorgophone, Arlen Vibraine, Ernesh, and the one I dread the most, Jax Boyd." Alyx continued.

"Jax Boyd? Why's he so prominent?" Jiro asked.

"I don't know much about his appearance, but from the stories my Father's told me... We'd be screwed if he were around, the guy is basically a walking behemoth on a mountain of Quirk enhancing steroids, it took my Father everything he had to stop him. My Father told me he blasted him off into space, or so he hopes anyway." He explained.

Izuku lowered one of his eyebrows, "So alongside the villains that attacked us at the U.S.J., we have to worry about them too?"

"No, you guys won't have to, I'll be the one who carries that burden. After all, their only goal is to destroy my family or ultimately get rid of me." Alyx responded.

"No way, man! We aren't gonna let you suffer in silence again! Whatever you're gonna face, we'll face it head on too!" Kirishima vowed.

Alyx shook his head and smiled, "I don't know what I did to meet people like you all, but I'm super grateful for it! Now about the Sports Festival, being that I don't think we'll be attacked for a while since things haven't blown over, how are you guys training for it?"

"Not like you, that's for sure." Sero remarked.

As the students rekindled with Leonidus, Shota continued on with the daily lessons, soon the school day came to a close. Alyx slung his bag over his shoulder as he shut his locker. He made his way out of the school and towards Gym Gamma to train one last time before the Sports Festival. He stood alone in the middle of the gym, he put on his P.E. clothes before attempting to enter Gear Three.

"Yeah, like I was saying-" Mina stopped herself.

A loud boom sound was heard nearby, Mina, Yaoyorozu, Uraraka, Kaminari, and Jiro all looked towards where it came from.

"Holy hell, what was that? Did something explode?" Kaminari wondered.

"I'm not sure, you wanna go check it out?" Jiro replied.

They all made their way towards Gym Gamma, the area that they heard the sound come from. As they got there, they heard loud bangs and crashes coming from inside of the gym.

"W-What's going on in there... Wait! You don't think it's a villain, do you?" Mina fretted.

"Unlikely, security here would've spotted a villain coming into the gym from a mile away. Although that could possibly be the reason if they have some sort of warping Quirk." Momo theorized.

They quietly and carefully entered the gym. All of them peeked their heads into the gym by slightly opening the doors. Mina's eyes widened, the same with her smile.

"Holy... Look at him! Well toned, cute... I don't mean to sound like a perv but Leonidus is a total hottie! He definitely just took 1st place for Class 1-A's Pretty Boy award!" Mina whispered.

Alyx stopped training and stood still, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath in, he then stood in a charge up position.

"Haaaaaahhhhh..." Alyx muttered.

Dust began to pick up and circle around Leonidus as he charged up. Sparks of blue energy surrounded him. Alyx's hair began to flow with the wind as his Overdrive began to creep up his arms and legs. The lights in the gym began to flicker rapidly as his aura intensified. He grit his teeth and clenched his fists tighter than before. Then, the gym began to shake, almost as if an earthquake had stuck the area! Blue sparks flashed around Alyx even quicker than before!

"HRRRRAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!" Alyx thundered.

For a brief moment, Leonidus entered Gear Three! Glowing blue lines flickered in and out around his arms, chest and back! He collapsed to the ground, breathing heavily, Mina and the others kept quiet as they watched.

"Should we help him?" Jiro asked.

Mina looked over at Momo, "He's your boo thing, go help him!"

"W-What? 'Boo thing'? I'm unsure what you mean, but if it's anything like a crush..." Momo whispered.

"Yaomomo, he's all you talk about in the girls groupchat sometimes, I don't mean to sound rude." Uraraka added.

Mina pressed her hands against Momo's cheeks, "Girl, you gotta get in there and embrace your feelings! Now, go on and help him!"

Mina pushed Yaoyorozu inside of the gym and gave her a thumbs up. Alyx stumbled up to his feet at Momo walked over to him. He looked back behind him and smiled at her.

"Oh, hey Momo! What's up?" He bubbled.

Momo thought.

She looked around the room, "I... I was just wondering what those loud booms were. I didn't know you were training here today."

"Eh, just for today, I wanted to see if I could enter Gear Three finally. But I guess I haven't had much luck so far, that one was pretty close though!" He chuckled.

"I've got a question for you though, Alyx... Um..." Momo responded.

Mina intently looked on, "Come on... Say it... Say it..."

"W-Well, it's uh... Where did you get that scar on your eye?" Momo quickly questioned.

Mina frowned as Uraraka, Jiro and Kaminari all looked at her. She slowly pulled her head out of the doorway.

"Well, before my girlfriend Laura died, she saved me from being killed by my Grandmother. The attack went a bit farther than I thought, I nearly lost my vision in my left eye. It was a miracle that I could even see out of it!" Alyx answered.

"Ah, I see... Speaking of relationships, do you happen to know a lot about them?" Momo responded.

Leonidus picked up his shirt and gym top before looking at her, "Hm? Oh, of course! Is there something you wanna know?"

The two began to walk out of the gym together towards their homes. Momo stopped in front of Leonidus on the hill that overlooked most of Musutafu.

"There is something I do want to know, there happens to be someone I like, but I'm unsure what I should do about it. It almost feels a bit too soon to ask them if they feel the same." She told him.

"Just go with whatever your heart decides, my Grandfather Tanjiro always told me that the heart is what drives people. But having a sound mind and reason, that's as equally as important. So I'd say just go with what your heart tells you, Momo." Alyx advised.

Momo thought.

Yaoyorozu turned around to face Alyx, "Thank you, I think I get my feelings now, for the most part at least."

Leonidus nodded with a smile on his face, he pulled out his phone as it began to ring, he looked up at Momo before answering it.

"Well, I'll see you tomorrow!" He waved goodbye.

Alyx took off into the air as Momo waved at him. He answered his phone with a great look of confusion on his face.

"Sheyenne? How in the hell are you even calling me? I thought you couldn't do long distance calls?" Alyx asked.

"Eh, I may have messed around with some things, nothing illegal of course!" She laughed.

"Good grief," Alyx sighed, "How's it been back in Nevada? You guys doing alright?"

"It's been oddly quiet, since all that shit went down before you left, there hasn't been a single trace of those dumbasses anywhere. It's like they completely disappeared off the face of the Earth." Sheyenne replied.

"Then I guess my fears are correct, they must've followed me here, they've been keeping quiet here as well. My class was attacked by villains a few days ago, one of them smelled exactly like her. I'm unsure why, but there's no doubt that he has some connection to her, or has met her at some point." Leonidus surmised.

"That could be true... Oh! Did Melissa send you that thingy yet? She forgot an attachment for your hero costume." Sheyenne questioned.

"Huh? An attachment... No, I haven't heard anything about that, I would imagine it's at home though. She normally sends things to me by drones if the package is small enough. Do you know what it is?" He answered.

"Nah, she just asked me about it a couple days ago. She sounded rather excited about it." Sheyenne responded.

"Well, it must be something awesome if she's excited about it! Hey, I'm almost home, I'll call you soon!" Alyx bubbled.

The two said their goodbyes as Alyx landed down on his front lawn. He walked over to his mailbox to check if Melissa Shield's package had arrived. Inside was a small box, he took it out and saw that it was addressed to him.

"Yep, this must be it!" Leonidus said to himself.

He took it inside with him, as he entered the house, Alyx was greeted by his Father's tremendously loud snoring. He took the package upstairs to his room, he sat the box on his desk and made a small Overdrive Blade using his index finger. Leonidus cut open the box and found a small watch inside. It lit up with a hologram of Melissa Shield herself.

"Woah!" Alyx shouted.

"Hiya, Alyx! I figured I should make this for you to help you out! I've always wanted to help out in some way during battle, so I've made myself a virtual assistant for you to use during combat!" Melissa announced.

"A virtual assistant? That sounds cool! So, kinda like an Iron-Man and JARVIS kinda vibe?" Alyx marveled.

"Exactly! Except if Tony Stark were real, we'd most likely work for him instead." Melissa giggled.

Alyx closely inspected the watch, "I don't see any straps to this. Does it kind of just stick onto my hero costume or...?"

"Just slap it on there and it'll fuse to your entire costume! We developed it into a watch like form for easier travel." She informed him.

"Sweet! Thank you so much, Melissa! I gotta go, there's a Sports Festival I gotta get ready for!" Leonidus smiled.

"Alright, talk to you soon, Alyx!" She responded.

The hologram of Melissa Shield flickered out, he set the watch back down on his desk, Leonidus looked at the picture of Laura he had on his nightstand.
