"Ann is alive, Granny." John happily hugs his grandmother.
John hugs his grandmother without looking at his surroundings. His Grandma, Granny Ria, has a teary eye as she hugs John. She does not know how to tell him the truth.
'How can I tell you, John?' Granny Ria thinks.
John releases the hug and notices two familiar, yet unfamiliar, individuals sitting in his living room. He lets out a sigh and gazes at them.
John looked back fondly on his teenage years, filled with laughter and play with his parents.
But now he fists his hand tightly as his knuckles have turned white. John turns and looks at his grandmother.
John asks, "Why are they here? I told you, granny, I do not want to see them."
Grandma Ria raises her hand to touch her grandson's cheek, but John takes a step back. He knows she will take her son's and his wife's side.
John shouts, "Why the hell have you come back? Why are you here when I was happy? You always return when I am happy in my life, with my life. Just leave."
John's mother looks at her son with teary eyes. She wants to walk to him and hug him tightly, but she is afraid that he will push her, thinking that she holds the armrest of her wheelchair.
John's father gets up from the sofa and walks to his son, who has covered his eyes with both hands.
John's reaction to his parents is childlike, but they are scared of something else. They worry about losing John if they reveal the whole truth.
John's father hugs him tight, and the latter burst into tears. John is crying like a child in his father's arms. His father rubs his hands on his back to console him.
Today is a very long day and night for Evans'.
After crying for an hour or two, John rubs his eyes, looks at his father, and asks, "Ann?"
John's father looks at his son helplessly.
John stands still, gazing at the family– his father, mother, and grandmother. He has lost the words as he walks away from them.
