I started reading TKA after stumbling on a video on the donghua version around 2 years ago. After watching the donghua, I honestly fell in love with it. It was a fresh breath of air after standard mmo anime in which I never really enjoyed. After finishing season 1 of the donghua, I decided to read the novel (which was a surprise to me as I hate reading and can never commit to it XD). I realized just how much it gave me all the feels and many laughs. Sure, some parts of the novel can be a little dragged on or boring without the shenanigans from Ye Xiu, but it was still really enjoyable. It even made me cry. It included all the things I ever wanted from an mmo, good world building, cool and interesting mechanics such as self made equipment and how you can pretty much so anything in the game (such as rolling backwards XD) and even tactics such as unique moves, dirty tactics, strategy and flooding your opponents screen with speech bubbles so that they can't see what they're doing or killing their ears with constant talking *cough cough Huang Shao Tian* The novel not only cares for the character development of the main cast, but also for the small side characters. It can turn my least favorite characters to ones where you can come to like them by the end, yes even Sun Xiang. It shows that the rivals are not only rivals but also great friends with their interactions on and off stage, becoming best friends through the game they love. Video games are not only there for you to play, but also to learn from. It deals with real life problems from company greed, aging, ridicule, and even your own disabilities. It shows how the ones facing these problems overcome them and find a way to do what they dream to do. It tells the story of a retired pro player getting kicked out of his club rising back to the top of the pro scene after retirement with a new team that shares his love for Glory. They faced many challenges together, encounter many funny and serious moments, all to rise to the top of Glory fame, and it all stared In an internet cafe. Hopefully this review helped to convince you to read / gave you my impression about this amazing novel. If you're new, you're in for a trip you won't regret.
