It's not to hurt them physically, the MC doesn't show any reaction to anything that happens to him. Remember how the conflict of the civil war movie began, Zemo didn't have the need to do physical harm to make the Avengers fight each other

Isn’t the mc a teenager or something and he’s not smart enough to do so without someone noticing. Plus civil war only happened because zemo basically showed tony who killed his father and Steve wanted to protect Bucky.
