I thought the story was really good, but then there was the future spoiling thing and that kinda ruined it for me. If the MC was going to be Naruto the whole time why would you make a new guy to start with? And why would a he try to have his sage chakra resemble the toads?

Think of it like this. You have a Sports Car (Fallen Moon Sage Chakra) but you don't know how to drive (Fallen Moon Kata), so you are learning from a friend who has a mini-van (Toad Sage Chakra) and are following his instructions (Toad Kata) so you can figure out how to drive your Sports Car Safely.
You should also know that he doesn't know how long he was in captivity. While he may think he is normal now, he only has 12ish years of 'Normal' experience. Remember, people who have sage bodies tend to live really long lives and stay younger for a long time. He also didn't have any effective way to know how long he was in the facility with the dreaded tubes.
