I wish stories like this had characters with English names. If this is going to be based on LOTR then the character should have an English name like Shaun Chi. Not having that makes it hard for the reader to immerse themselves in the world building!!

Uh this is a chinese novel. Stop thinking that english is the only language and english names are the norm, it isn’t. Stop being ethnocentric.

Nah. Imagine reading a xianxia where everyone is named Eric, Jones, Daniel, etc. Makes no sense for the setting.

If you think my comment is enthocentric you clearly don’t the definition. This novel is based on LOTR, and written in a similar fantasy world. All I’m saying is that if the author is going to rip from LOTR, then stick somewhat closed to the fictive naming conventions.

Yeah, but we’re not taking about xianxia. I’m taking about a story best in a similar world to LOTR. Is it such a stretch to ask authors using a similar fantasy world to stick to Tolkien’s naming conventions?
