I think his writing quality has gone up since his last work. I like how he is trying to make a new character different from his old one. I think that, different from his old one, there is going to be more tragedy and development with this protagonist. It isn't the same story as his old one, and we shouldn't expect it to be so. He may look weak willed, or it may look a little slow, but I think it adds to the realism of his inner trauma, of the hard work it takes to become a shinobi. It has to be shown that he is far behind the others, and I think that is shown adequatly. Continue doing a good job. I am excited to see the future chapters.
