The author writes a lot of nothing, tons of pointless exposition in the beginning and the slow pace is annoying to deal with. I'm sure "the book gets good" but even reading past the first few chapters is such a chore.

It's the author's failure to capture the readers attention, not the other way round, reading or watching anything in hopes it gets better is plain stupidity.
