It is sad to inform that one of the biggest problems in the world today is food waste. There is still quality soil and plenty of water, but we need to make food reach poor places, at low cost and with quality. This is more logistical than spatial dependence. After all, there is ample urban space where it is possible to grow food.

I understand and agree with your view on the situation, but u put your self in a point where you though about humanity as whole. But most people think how to put their hands on more wealth or geting more personal possessions as a general term. so the idea is reasonable.

English is not my native language, but if you read old texts about agriculture. older ones are not those of agronomy. The individual farmer feels time differently. Food, for example, is not wealth for the farmer, it spoils quickly. There is a very small window for harvesting and labor means less profit. The man then learned that he needed to extract the most durable from the field (alcohol, wool, cotton, smoked, fermented, cheese) to survive between crops.

If you consider the MC as a small producer, he will be forced to sell the production at low cost, because it spoils and there is competition. And even if he expands production to the limit, the cost of transforming the product and distributing it, which today is an oligopoly that won't let him make money. The US, for example, produces with state protectionism because without it they are crushed. Source: rotten series, netflix.

It's twenty pages. It's not going to be my comment that's going to change your mind about reading this or not. There are maybe three or four titles that are really worth your time on this site, there are internet theories and fanfics that are more creative and well written than most of these books. Just decide for yourself. Besides, the star system is just a thinly disguised vagrant antispam.

I will have to correct you on your second point. Most people don't chase wealth. Most people are confined in small boxes that warrant them being hostile to other boxes. Such boxes are ethnicities , religions and ideologies. The biggest problem is that religions are mostly hostile one to another , ethnicities are given too much importance and we as humanity haven't picked a main ideology. When you have dozens of ideologies (on how we should operate) and people that in most case don't even understand what their ideology entails , you get todays cesspool of society. People that claim we should be coexist with nature don't understand that we lack the technology to do that while maintaining that same level of QoL that we currently possess. For us to coexist with nature we would have to return our QoL levels before the Roman Empire. Even then with the amount of population of humans on Earth now , even that might be difficult without a mass culling situation regarding the human population. Truth is that Nations , Religions and the absurd amount of conflicting ideologies (that have authority over our economical , political, societal and technological direction) are the main culprits behind many of our modern problems. For example the US spend ~1 trillion dollars every year on its military. If we have a federation of global scale would such an amount of money from 400 million individuals need to be wasted on military ? What could you achieve with this much money ? What could you do if you could focus all the scientific tools adn talents from all around the world in certain projects with sufficient funding. Not to mention the meaning of wealth , money , resources would suddenly lose a lot of its meaning. Bonus points if that Global Federation was authoritarian or an Aristotelian Monarachy , Aristocracy or Polity regarding who makes the decisions. Though I am pretty sure when you reach a global scale Federations or Federation like administrative systems are a must.
