Nop its good you cant judge it with first 20 chapters or skip read the start. The writer actually set up the plot early on not just wrote on the fly. Untill the middle of the novel he wrote it acoding to plan and then half compressed the planned stuff.

Although the ending was a bit rushed, but Legendary Mechanic has well thought-out story. At the end you notice that everything connects together. While rereading I noticed that the author constantly gives hints at events which will happen in hundreds of chapters. Like in the first tens of chapters there are already hints at events which will happen chapter 1100+. Not to mention that the style and position of the protagonist change so much that the first and second half feel like different novels, weren't it for certain events, characters and so on which connect everything together. Many characters introduced stay relevant until the end of the novel, just that similarly they experience great changes and are completely different people than at the beginning.
This is so convenient just finish reading all chapter of legendary mechanic and It was soooo goood I want more and this is just perfect. I think its good to start on the manga so you get hook on it than later once you reach until the end of what the manga does read the light novel. I did that and do not regret a single bit of my time.
