Yeah, it's an Asian stereotype joke used when parents are fed up with their kids who don't want to study at school (usually Asian parents move to place like the US) and say that their life was so much harder, so they are weak if they can't do this much (obviously some of their stuff is exaggerated but a 7 year old wouldn't typically know that.) Asian Tiger mom is good comparison to commenter, otherwise the MC parents are trash worse than this.

just a reminder to everyone, Asia is vast. This Asian stereotype is probably limited to Chinese in reality, not sure

Not limited to China. Philippines, India, Thailand, etc.

do you know any indian, filipino, or thai in person? I'm a SE Asian myself. Of course I can't speak for everyone, but I think we have many cultural similarities with the Filipinos and the Thais. Typical Asian parents would encourage/demand their children to do good in school, yes. They may go further by encouraging them to pursue certain professions, yes. But start their own business when they do bad in school? I doubt.

Nah, this is clearly an Asian Stereotype that is relatable or at least familiar to all Asians. Though the degree of it may vary from places to places. But again, it is a stereotype for a reason, like it not being applicable to a certain household or something...
