I like it how mysteriously the characters start out. The writer knows what to reveal and what to leave the readers guessing about - until later, I guess. I like the mixture of everyday life and happenings that change the fates of entire species. The transitions from one scene to another feel natural. This is a welcome escape to a reader's everyday life, with legendary, mythical characters and wholesome dialogue.
