Ok do not look at the rating because though I didn’t give full stars on some of the required items (because they really aren’t worth more than 3 tbh), the overall story is some quality read! Definitely a 4.5 star read (well I’m new to Webnovel so I’m using a NovelUpdates standard)! How to know a novel is great? When you keep hoping the extras never end and that is precisely what happened with this. Side note: read the raws 穿书八零成了五个大佬的后妈 for the extras that were not translated (a must read fir closure) I got into this just randomly looking for a counterattack novel with good business management and plot flow and boy of boy did it hit all the right buttons. It has: ✅ Faceslapping unreasonable relatives ✅ Poor to rich - business management ✅ Quality childcare (with 5 stepchildren how can it not) - genius children ✅ Rooomacceee (which I felt is one of the best romance I’ve read so far) So the entire plot is basically about this transmigrated woman who found herself in a viscous supporting role in a novel and decided to make do with what she had by becoming the nanny to her stepchildren who were tragic villains in the novel. The story revolves around her fighting for herself and the kids to get away from her toxic in-laws (after her husband’s death), making money to support the kids so that they could develop their talents and basically all about the children’s career and her business’s development (mainly on the children’s career though). As she takes care of the kids, she falls in love with them and they her (parent-child love people not the romantic thing). I don’t know if you’d consider this slice of life but to me it’s borderline with loads of plots in between. The romance … from the fact I wrote another para for it says a lot. It’s a real slow burn. At first I was just anxious like who the heck is the male lead. Like come on! I had Potential ML 1 popping up and I was SURE he was it then Potential ML 2 shows up and I was like ok maybe not this might be it though, then Potential ML 3 turned up and I was like this it it but then another ML got more screen time and I was CONFUSED! The author really had me guessing but in the end my ship did sail sooooo hehehe all is good! When they finally got together oh the dog food you’ll be feed hohohooooo. Oh and the FL did not string anyone along. She made it very clear with everyone from the start that she wasn’t looking for no romance. Character wise … the FL is a strong independent woman who is straight woman in romance so there was no lovey dovey until like more than halfway through. Her golden fingers consists of her knowledge (for some odd reason she seems to know tonnnns about general studying/knowledge stuff), business acumen i guess, her protagonist halo aka her unreasonably amazing luck and let’s not forget her ‘ox-like’ strength that has allowed her to muscle her way through a lot of problems. There are five kids aka Dong, Xi, Nan, Bei and Zhong (aka Xiao Wu - Little Five coz he’s the fifth kid) - East, West, South, North and Central/ Center (there actually a more common way to say it which is Dong, Nan, Xi, Bei so I totally got confused with Second and Third brother). Dong is the typical big bro, super responsible but taciturn because he has a stutter. His talent is in running businesses and having amazing business ideas which led to him being a business tycoon. Second Brother Xi (twin to Dong) is a gifted author who has a sharp tongue but a tofu heart. His talent is in writing may it be books or screenplay. In the end, he became a media mogul. Third Brother Nan is an evil critter. He has many scheming ideas that he discusses with his cunning Second Brother. His talent is in studying. You heard right STUDYING. Helps the type of genius that absorbs knowledge like sponge and absolutely loves it. From law knowledge to chemistry, you name it it knows it. His patented technology could earn him riches he could spend for a lifetime but he creates because he loves and because of his mother (aka our FL). Little Bei (twin to Nan) is the only little girl in the family and she is crowned the youngest movie queen. Versatile and lovely, she wins hearts all over despite her age. Finally, there is Xiao Wu, the little brother of the family. The musical genius who started composing since he was three and who could compose pieces that heal. Their journey of how they slowly grow up and discover their talents, and how the FL brings them out of their shell and heals their scars is what this novel is basically about so sweeetttt! There were also tons of hilarious moments that made me laugh out loud. Another thing I liked about the novel is that some of the canon fodder MLs also have their happy endings and also that the original novel’s male and female protagonist weren’t total crapheads who are inherently evil. Plot wise, a lot of the hidden/ mysterious factors were really obvious, either the author HEAVILY hinted or it was just darn easy to guess. But boy oh boy that TWIST that hit you later on HOT DAMN. It had me….not gonna spoiler it hehehe. I felt that the ending was great too! Loved ittttt! The plot and all was nice but because the novel focuses on raising the kids (and developing their careers) and building their worldviews, one con about this novel would be, the author/ characters’ skewed views. Like some of the theories and views they brought it could have been better discussed with a more neutral view but I felt that the character (especially the female lead) take a really strong stance in an annoyingly righteous way. So, that kinda annoyed me a little. Also, a bit of a spoiler here (but not really since the summary already gave it away), I don’t like how the author crap on the kids biological dad. Like, I understand that the FL was there when the kids needed her the most but … I don’t know how to say. The kids interaction with their dad was just a little meh. Their affection for him is like 5% of their affection towards their mom aka the FL. So, there’s that. But overall, it is still a good read! Definitely recommend to anyone considering!
