Have you ever read a harem story that has romance? Now that would be shocking. It's always funny seeing people who don't check the synopsis or tags before they start reading and then complain about what they should have already been warned of before they started reading... Like what on earth are you people thinking? And please don't tell me you did see the synopsis and tags, expecting the story to be different lol.

I often find the harem novels with “great romance” pretty crap. Mostly because its sooooo unrealistic, and they somehow try to pass it of as realisitc. Yeah no thanks🤷‍♂️

Take a dragon in DxD for example. At first the harem was fine, but after it exceeded 3 i started to forget the names of the harem members. Also, I'm pretty sure the author never mentioned any dates so.....not great romance. Don't get me wrong, i like 1 pairing as well, i can't stand story's where i can't even remember who's who. If an author can't balance 1-3 personalities(Romance), they shouldn't try to write it. If they can, then they should limit it to 1-3.

What's unrealistic in it? Unless it's in the same modern world as our own, different cultures hold different values and beliefs.

You know harems(polygamy) exist even in the real modern world right? even in the USA it is just that they aren't really legal(like that stops anyone) an aren't officially recognized by the government or allowed to be officially married so it doesn't matter if it was the same modern world as our own it could still be a harem and still be realistic. Also on a harem story with good romance, Live Long Summons was a pretty good one at least the girls didn't instantly in love or at least instantly fall into his arms there was some development even through it was growing into a good sized harem(I think around 7-10 last I read it awhile ago(new translator for it was bad so I stopped))

no they do exist there even use to be a tv show about them but they stopped the tv and moved to another state in fear the state government would force them apart so yes they do exist even now it's stupid to think there isn't when they are religions even in the US with practice it.(might be very rare but they do exist)

I know a lot of harem stories with proper romance. Anything else is just lazy writing, and being a harem is no excuse. It is obvious most of the time that the author just wants to jump directly to the 'reward' without bothering to build a real relationship.

Well, it depends on what stories you read. For example, the fanfiction The Spider has the protagonist go into a relationship with Black Cat, Jean Grey, Wanda. They are his main girls, but he also has sexual relationships with others like Susan Storm. In that story it is pretty realistic. They are all heroes and their life isn't normal anyway, so they might as well enjoy it. Black Cat is also a crazy girl, Jean Grey is the vessel of the Phoenix Force, and Wanda is a with op powers, too. The prota don't get them right away, and had experienced life-and-death situations, adventures, and dates with them. He saved some of the girls, helped them, supported them, and in the end they fell for him. Then they talked and decided that they want to try it. That is actually realistic, seeing that they are superhumans and not normal anyway.
