I'm at chapter 94 and stopped to this review because although this book covers many triggering topics, the writer does a good job keeping it realistic. The comments of some odd the readers however, are simply annoying AF. As people seem quick to excuse an predator (the ML) because he decides to accept her "punishment" and crazy behavior. Rose the FL struggles with ongoing demons and acts the way she does because of everything that happened to her. Her seeing her dead sister shouldn't be taken ad her being "crazy". It's a sign of how hard what she experienced was. Many psych patients (especially young ones ) will experience hallucinations as a coping mechanism in times when they are left alone or become unable to handle grief or large stress. They are too young to know what is happening. After losing her sis the only person she believed understood her it became too much. Then being blamed for Sofias death and also being punished for it, would easily cause her to develop "sofia" to cope. As time goes on she may also "receive orders or suggestions " from said hallucinations. It's easier for her to comprehend it as "Sofia made me do it" or "sofia will be happy if I get revenge"vs. being able to face the reality of what is happening. Some pts in the presence of guilt may begin to feel suicidal as if they have to "join" the dead person they are seeing. Similarly some patients can develop dissociative identity disorder (multiple personalities), and cope with trauma by having split personalities. The presence of her auditory and visual hallucinations further proves how much the mental and physical abuse along with being ostracized caused her to become so broken. i.e. Ermanno and her family REALLY (and I cannot stress this enough) efffed her up. The amount of stress she endured was to much do any person to handle from 10 years old until she grew up only to be forced to marry her abusers. Them expecting her to fix Ermano and his twisted personality is insane and drove me mad. How can the victim fix the person that is hurting her without become more damaged. Her being pregnant and Sabrina telling her to make an attachment with the baby is also a double edge sword due to her mental illness. She may become obsessive and experience further problems like post partum depression after she gives birth. It's not smart for Elios to be plotting against her. Kudos to the author as this shows the dimensions of why Rose is the way she is and the affects of her abuse. So for readers claiming Ermanno is too sweet for her, and she doesn't deserve him. Your wrong and enabling victim blaming. Ermano and her family created the twisted person Rose is. This is why it's important to listen to abuse victims and also be present for grieving children, so that things like major PTSD and mental illness issues don't develop. sidenote; Enrique as a grown up should've spoke out. Training Ermanno to be a DOM only gave him an excuse to use BDSM as a cloak for his abusive possessive behavior.
