Mhmm, alot of novels do that. I prefer the experimental log of the crazy lich where he's not impatient to raise his power level but does it as his plan and concenience demands. Tales of herding gods does a good job using rivalry and how he was raised to make the MC's motivation to be expected and reasonable.
