I read the first 60+ chapters and read some spoilers and skipped ahead to somewhere around chapter 260+ and continued to read the rest from there. This novel is pretty crazy. I skipped the truly heartbreaking parts in their first marriage but they went through a WHOLE LOT of other stuff after that that you just end up sighing and shrugging at the fact that they ended up together at the end. By that point, you can’t really blame her. Only the person who was wronged gets to decide whether the other people has repented enough to earn their forgiveness. Different people decide differently. And it was several years before she actually decided to get back together with him. And for them to get back together, it’s basically because they both had no intention of marrying anyone else and they can’t exactly cut each other out of each other’s lives due to their daughter needing both of them—and the both of them truly love and cherish their daughter. They were both getting older and older and it would have been quite lonely and painful for both of them if the FL were to live on while holding onto grudges. Their getting back together was the FL deciding to give him one final chance...and it paid off in the end. (The story also contrasts this with another couple’s story which is similar to theirs, but in which the female was able to move on and get together with the second guy) The male lead is a total scumbag. In fact this story is full of scumbags. So full of scumbags that it’s sometimes quite tricky trying to decide which one is the worst. It’s just that in life, some scumbags can change for the better for the right people. Don’t get me wrong—ML is still mercilessly cruel to his enemies (unless the FL or their daughter tells him to do otherwise), but he’s not entirely, unreasonably bad. The real problem is with the author’s—as well as that of other authors with similar stories—lack of regard for how truly tragic and traumatizing rape can be for people as well as how in these stories, the female characters are always the ones who truly lead tragic lives compared to how the other male characters are treated. The female antagonists get tortured or get their lives ruined due to the bad things they’ve done, but there were also a lot of male characters who did horrible things to other people, but you don’t really see them getting their just desserts. That said, there is a certain cleverness in the way that the author created certain antagonists. Of course, there are still those who are villainous in a cliched way, but there are those that leave you with a foreboding dread for how these characters will turn out later on. There are also some antagonists who also turn out to be less antagonistic than some others and were able to move on with their own lives at the very end. There are some unbelievable plots (of course), but they do keep the story interesting. I think it was somewhat rushed near the ending with the years quickly going by, but at least it has a happy ending.

Not sure about the total no. of chapters since the raws I was reading from was quite messed up in labelling its chapter numbers as well as in the length of certain chapters, but I’d say probably between 1250-1300?

I decided to go back and read the chapters I skipped about the failed first marriage and oh man, it really has you crying buckets of tears. I realize now that I shouldn’t have skipped this part as reading spoilers alone is entirely different from reading how it actually went. Also, it gives you a bigger picture on how you judge these characters overall by the end of the story. Is the ML redeemable based on the things he did to her? Most definitely not. He’s not a good person. It’s his merciless attitude towards his enemies that enabled him to be merciless to the one he truly loved. That didn’t really change by the end of the story. He is as he was in the beginning of the story; caring towards his loved ones and downright cruel to whoever he sees as an enemy. The only difference is that he no longer sees XRX as an enemy later on. XRX’s only fault in the beginning was that she didn’t know what it was to be loved the right way and lacked in self-love so she couldn’t have prepared herself for what happened. She was starved for love for almost her entire life that she couldn’t see CL’s schemes for what they were. CL will suffer quite a bit later on at XRX’s hands, but her reasoning was understandable at the time and her methods (in my opinion) weren’t as heartless as his so it wasn’t really enough to justify everything. (Not to mention, XRX suffers so so so much right after that that you barely have time to think on it—though mostly at the hands of another antagonist) I, however, will stand by my initial review in that I don’t blame XRX for taking him back at the end. There was just so much suffering throughout the story that I wouldn’t want to see her suffer more by holding onto grudges all the way to her grave and never letting herself love anyone else again (besides her daughter). I do wish there was a better love interest for her, but there wasn’t anyone else so...oh well. 🤷🏻‍♀️

even if the FL was stupid and lacked self respect and accepted the ML back, as a child who was showered by lover her mother, she should truly detest the person who made the mother undergo so much, even though that person is her father. Why the hell did she accept him as her father......let him go to hell

Actually, the daughter as a child was still able to tell that the ML was the main reason that she and her mother went through such hardship. She was actually a sensitive and impressionable kid who knew how to hold a grudge. She actually didn’t acknowledge him as her father for a really long time even when the truth came out. She pretty much snubbed him most of the time. Instead, she acknowledged the doctor more as her father...until that same doctor pushed them away. Also, at a really young age, kids can forget a lot of things when there are drastic changes in their environment. I already forgot a lot of the details but she was really young when she first went missing and she was missing for an entire year(?). In that year, she suffered a lot and so she forgot a lot about her childhood. She forget her mother’s face though she remembers that she had a mother who really loved her. When she was finally found, only the ML was around (the FL had amnesia at this point) so they gradually grew closer.
