The author doesn't know how to write interesting characters. The main character is always portayed as cold and indifferent, and the author uses a "harsh past" as an excuse, but it only comes off as bad character writing. She's disguised as a man for large portions of the story, coupled with her lack of personality this can hardly be categorized as "female protagonist". The main love interest gives off massive rapey vibes and only serves as a shield for the mc when she's in danger, further pushing the damsel in distress trope. Side characters only serve to act incompetent to make the mc seem smarter than she is, and antagonists are never developed well, usually just dying before anyone actually caring about them. The world building is nice, never taking too much time, but enough to give you a decent sense of the setting. Where the author shines is in developing the arcs, it doesn't come off as repetitive, and problems along with solutions are creative and rarely reused. Which is rare for chinese cultivation novels, where the formula is usually repeated often. Overall it's a pretty average novel, may be worth a read if you don't mind the lack of personality and just like facesmacking.
