Mortals in an Immortal world with.... NO CANNON FODDER! The Xianxia genera is a fun read - but the pervasive callousness towards "mere mortals" is disturbing. The best stories have the MC casually right any injustice that they personally see (but only if it's convenient or advantageous to them). The worst stories revel in the slaughter and vengeance! Only "geniuses" are worthy of attention and personal rights in so many of these books. This book takes the very Western ideals of equality and justice for all and tackles the morals of the genre.... sideways and slowly. (Head-on confrontation would be stupid - and the MC ain't stupid) I love the fact that Jack does everything within his power to change the hearts-and-minds of those around him but... ONLY what is within his power. This is a lead who knows the virtue of patience and keeping his head down.

This is exactly what I want to portray in my novel. I got tired from all of the callousness in the novels that I read and decided to do a novel where the MC gets horrified by it. I think my breaking point was when a side character in Shadow Hack offended the MC and then the MC killed him, THEN the side character's family gets murdered just because of that without doing anything to the MC. I hope that you enjoy the direction I take the story in. Thanks for the support!
