This review will be more extensive, mainly because it's a premium novel that will devour a vast amount of resources(ss) to read up. I agree with how the overall rate ended up at 3,5 star. I'll start with general points, the title sounds a tad cheesy for western readers, especially those who had an extensive contact with eastern novels, but fits the book like a glove. The stability(5 stars) and quality(4 stars) of the updates is very good. The world's background(5 stars) is a splendid mix of our modern world and wuxia realms. I am mostly happy and fond of the character designs(3 stars), but this novel couldn't evade escaping the dreadfull, trope archetypes/templates here and there. Much like with Disney, you can tell some bullshits coming mile ahead. The mixing of those templates with more fleshed out characters is done fine, but you'll see many wasted or nastily unnecessary happenings. Hence I've settled for 3 stars. Now, the worst part: Story Development. 2 stars. And there are reasons for such low score, even tho, and mainly because I really like this novel. My main issue with SD is that the story seems to be thorn between leisure-paced slice of life romance with supernatural twist... and an animesque shonen-like brawl. At the beginning, in it's roots, this novel tried to do something pretty rare for wuxia. It was neither slapstick comedy like Cultivation Chat Group, nor something grand and vast in seriousness like Ze Tian Ji. But the more time you spend with the story, the more anomalies you'll see. My personal opinion is that the author got bored and/or impatient, and from time to time they(unsure whether its male or female) stir things up, or spice it up with weird and animesque stuff. It's just my assumption, but that's how it feels to me. I am disappointed with many unnecessary and overblown side-arcs and characters. A great examples of flaws that I'vepointed out would be: rich-boy template asshole at school, rich-boy template rival assholes #1 and #2, how the Lu sisters undeveloped into slapstick episodes or how the Little Carrot was forcibly inserted into the main story. And how patiently developed MC ****** background was turned upside down out of sudden and for no reason. Even with all that said, I still think it is a good read. Whether is it worth your time, money or hard work depends on you, fellow daoist readers. All I hope for this review is it climbing the ladder and appear when people consider whether to give it a try. Yours sincerely, Uncle Oddball.
