He won't stick with japanese folklore forever. I'm not sure about using references from other manga/anime, because it might break immersion a bit, but we'll have to see. Right now, I'm not saying no, but I'm not saying yes either.
Right now I'm focusing on folktales, I think it suits the Jujutsu Kaisen universe perfectly since the series actually has a few of them.
Nuribotoke, a yokai.
Dodomeki is also a yokai, a human woman who is cursed with having long arms covered with hundreds of bird eyes due to her habit of stealing money, or so the legend goes. Note that although I'll have their abilities will reference in some way their legends, I'll take some liberties, so for instance, I might (still haven't decided) use the concept of 'stealing' for her powers, and not necessarily stealing money.
Bakeneko. Note that this is just the specific version I chose to go with, there are many different interpretations of this particular yokai, but I just saw this picture and thought it was cute, so...
He's wearing his Saitama Urami East Junior middle school uniform, just in case. If someone isn't familiar with dates, Megumi begins his education in Jujutsu High in 2018, and we are in 2016 right now.
I still don't know much interest Kenjaku is going to have in him, he'll be interested, obviously, but I need to study him a little more as a character before I decide. Suguru on the other hand... Well, I have a lot of plans for him. I'm not even sure if he'll share the fate of his canon self.
Right now Jun won't be using a weapon, the one flaw of his current self is that he sucks at combat in close quarters and is heavily reliant on his cursed spirits. He can't fuse curses together, not right now at least, Jun's just learning after all, but in the far future he might be able to do something resembling a fusion.
If that wasn't the case, then it would straight up be a better version of Cursed Spirit Manipulation in every way, I don't want that. I want each of these two techniques to differentiate themselves from each other, so far I would differentiate them like this: Cursed Spirit Manipulation: Dependant on finding existing curses, requires subjugating them but guarantees control and lastly, the quality of the spirit's cursed technique ceases to grow after absorbing it. (As stated by Kenjaku before absorbing Mahito) Cursed Spirit Creation: Dependant on negative emotions to create curses, but there's no need to subjugate them, doesn't guarantee control, the quality of a spirit's cursed technique keeps evolving, allows some personalization of the cursed spirits.
His cursed spirits have free will, but as their creator, most cursed spirits tend to have a favorable opinion of him and a predisposition to listen to what he says. It is perfectly possible that at some point he'll create a cursed spirit that *won't* like him or won't feel like obeying him. It's not that uncommon, he has experienced this many times but he typically exorcises uncooperative curses, hence why the only cursed spirits around him all seem to like him, because he dealt with those that didn't. To sum it all up, as he says it himself this chapter, he doesn't really control them, all of them have their own free will.
I might not have explained his powers well then because it's certainly not something as powerful or flexible as to allow him to do something like creating a curse with Gojo's abilities. Sure, he can influence his cursed spirits to a degree but creating a curse with a very specific ability he wants is... Near impossible. Which is why he's focusing on creating cursed spirits based on urban legends, he can more or less predict what their abilities will be based on the tales. As for him being like Gojo, hm... This is a tricky one because personally I don't really see it that way? I mean he's outgoing, but honestly that's were the similarities end as far as I'm concerned.
Sukima-Onna's appeareance can vary depending on the version of the legend but from my understanding she's almost always portrayed as a woman with long, black hair. In some versions she's almost identical to a human, in some others she's, well... More creepy looking. Personally, I like to imagine her more like a monster and less like a human, so the way I picture her is extremely long nails, grey skin, hollow eyes shadowed by her hair, unnaturally thin and dressed in ragged clothing.
His cursed spirits can't absorb cursed energy, they are just as any other cursed spirit we have seen in JJK in that regard. As for Shibuya, Jun's ability thrives in having negative emotions to create his cursed spirits, the more, the better, so yeah. As for the last question, I'll explain that concept later on in the story, but think of it as a trade off, it's a bit complicated to explain, but just know that he can't just do it for free.
His Cursed Spirits can get stronger, but like us, they've got their limits. They're not just stuck with what they've got though â their intelligence, power, and even their personalities can grow. It all depends on the curse itself. I've actually dropped a few hints about this before. Take Sukima-Onna, for instance. She could hardly say a word at first, but now she's way better at communicating.
I think I hinted at it (or actually flat out stated it) but even Jun comments he may have over shared a few things. Jun's a teenager who never gets to talk about his life with anyone, really, that's the reason he's working on creating cursed spirits that can hold a conversation. And it's also the reason behind instructing his cursed spirit (Sukima-Onna) to guide 'special humans' towards him. I understand people's dislike towards characters explaining their abilities mid battle (I'm a Bleach fan, trust me, I get it), but taking into account what I have established Jun's character to be, I think this scenario makes sense, no?
