Sunny lost the water domain through Crown of Twilight. As Lord of Shadows and add Soul Weave to it, he should be able to manipulate the shadows domain right...right. Among all of the nerf he has been subject to, I hope Saint or Nightmare has rank up or close to at least.

If he got to lie, I don’t see why he can’t just transfer his consciousness to a shadow that’s not present and respond there and shift his consciousness back to his body and then continue talking. I doubt Sunny has scratched the bottom of what his currently capable of doing.
A weird quirk of that situation was that the shadows refused to speak unless the body was directly controlled by him, despite being physically able to. Whether it was an external limitation or simply not in their nature, he did not know.
