Maybe it's himself, or the world itself
My guess on how the scale of power goes in this world, based primarily on the phrase "body, mind and soul" and it's implementation in another novel, called the Great Mage Returns after 4k Years, is that after the Martial Mind is the Martial Soul. Body -> Mind -> Soul. And that Transcendants use some sort of power relating to their souls. Like an "authority" to control reality, to an extent. As for why that one Transcendent was afraid, maybe he realized how small of a fish he really was, or how restricted he was going to be when he transcended. Maybe there's a martial police in space that manages planets. Would explain how Martial Art exploded in just 500 years. Love this novel.

Somethings rising, and it isn't the shield hero...
I imagine he was prepared for a fight the whole time, so he would've been very tense. I could imagine that would exhaust him pretty quickly. It could be more of a mental exhaustion, too.
