Wiki only says her Church eliminated them, not the reason. I did a quick check of canon and found Klein wondering about her motive at one point but not any concrete reveal of why She chose to eliminate them. I'm open to seeing a quote from canon for it since I may have missed some scene, but until then I don't feel we know enough about the whole situation.

I believe it was mentioned in the interviews that the coins are needed to enter Klein's dream and hence awaken him from it. Don't remember anything being stated in the book (other than "Klein had a feeling the coins would be helpful"), though it was implied in In Modern Day's ending, where four to five oddly-dressed people appear in the city.
