For almost a month, I have now worked hard on the magic books. The impressions are ambiguous. On the one hand, it is new and exciting. Still, on the other hand, the presentation of the material is merely awful. I have never seen such a concentration of material "about nothing." Abstract thoughts and arguments, no material base, justification. Unless potion-making still somehow resembled something scientific. My happiness at that was cut short when I saw Stan's state after the shockwave dispersed the rest of the dust cloud around him. Stan looked pretty hurt, with some visible singed areas around his head/throat along with multiple bleeding areas all over his body. Our eyes met, and he used that moment to say, 'Sorry, boss but I don't think I can keep fighting' over our telepathic link before slumping over. You can only do this the first time anyone battles her in a period of time, training at this stage is supposed to take much longer after all.
Everyone quickly understood where the sudden boost came from when Scizor's (mid) platinum stage undulation started to spread, and I really wanted to curse when that happened. What kind of shit luck was this? Wasn't I supposed the lucky one? Why then did Stepahnie's Pokemon keep advancing or breaking through during our battle? I thought shit like that only happened to Ash, though at least Ash's Pokemon also tended to evolve or suddenly get stronger during important battles/events. Not that I would want my Pokemon to suddenly evolve if we could avoid it since it would result in a wasted opportunity, but it was a matter of principle. - Nate_Rivers_551410dCommented
Again, Ryujin can just rest inside the pokeball if it's out of stamina, it feels a little unbalanced compared to the fight against Lucario.
"Mark, you've done well," Stephanie first addressed her Bisharp before raising her hand. "I'm forfeiting Mark. He's done," she declared, and the referee accepted her concession. "Gym Leader Stephanie has forfeited her Bisharp, so Gyarados is the victor," the referee announced, and Ryujin actually slumped after he said that. Is this happening too often to make sense? Especially after so much prep and when you're already down to the last two Pokemon.
Nonetheless, while the two Pokemon were having a dance-off, their respective abilities and talents were activated as well. Ryujin's Intimidate as well as Alpha Predator activated, and they ended up triggering Bisharp's Defiant ability. As a result of this ability/talent chain, Bisharp actually ended up making a profit, and he left the exchange with his strength boosted twice. Adding Sword Dance on top of that meant Bisharp's strength had close to tripled from the get-go which was not good for us.
