Very promising chapters. You can see that the author spent a lot of time and effort into writing the characters and thinking out the story progression. I’ve read half a dozen chapters when writing this, and based on those, I’d say this book is a hidden gem. I especially like that the author doesn’t hold your hand when it comes to any underlying culture, societal structures, philosophies or the political situations of the story world. This lore is very much there, sometimes even as a major driver for the plot. But the characters only explicitly mention it when and if it would be realistic to do so in their situation. This means that more often than not, the lore remains implied through the character’s words or perpetuated through their actions, and it is up to the reader to read between the lines to figure these things out. I like this choice a lot. It makes the story universe appear realistic, and makes looking deeper into the story all the more rewarding. I also like how the author wrote the main character, Anglishn. She is relatable, and during the first few chapters, its very evident that you're dealing with a 14 year old. Here Are Dragons is not a story about “the chosen one” who ultimately unlocks planet-busting superpowers and saves the universe. Anglishn is a crafty individual with a favorable upbringing, but ultimately, she is very much a normal person. It makes the hostile political and sometimes downright supernatural forces of the fantasy world all the more dangerous, but consequently all the more meaningful as well.

Awesome read! I read the first ten chapters so far, and I can say that the story is action-packed, there’s no shortage of humorous one-liners, and it has a rather spicy if ruthless femme fatale as its protagonist. Despite the abundance of blazing guns, giant mutated angler fish and heavily weaponized strippers, the chapters have a surprising amount of depth to them; courtesy of the many references to both contemporary pop culture and ancient Greek mythology. The same depth can be attributed to the lore of the story-world, although much of it remains implied throughout the story’s background and the actions of its characters. The book is obviously still work in progress, but if you can look past the occasional typo or grammar error, I’d say the story so far is definitely worth the read.
