While I havn't posted on ao3 before I would recommend that you drop a sizable chunk of chapters (maybe 30 or 40) to show that there is actually a story present and so that people get drawn in; and then start with regular updates to show people that you are commited to continuing the story. Should help reader retention.

I'm not saying well-paced harem is impossible, but it's way harderd than y'all make it out to be. Harem belongs in smut most of the time. If you are serious about your narrative and pacing, monogamy is the way to go.
