Super late, but from what I gather the original work that this story was translated from the author explained he wanted to do more like the Venom universe, Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, Ultraman, even Peni Parker's Eva, but he lost balance between the comic universe and the movie universe. He left to many holes for him to fill so it felt like a big blow to him.
