The legion is a great adversary to the colony. In a way, the reader can’t help but be sympathetic to the situation they are in. For fairly good reasons they cannot ally with the ants. Yet the author gave them more than enough depth that we are actually rooting for an alliance against the odds instead of just hoping Anthony crushes them

While everyone around the Imp seemed to be pretty scared of the Flames, the Imp was more curious about them, because weirdly enough, instead of that red-orange that fire usually was, these flames were completely blue! This is weird. I am rereading the story and it has been established that this is not true. It’ s just the lie Ruby tells everyone. But the author displays the information to the audience directly. Did the author decide to change Ruby’s backstory halfway through the story? It makes very little sense to have the narrator start lying.
