Yea, if there was some kind of tragic event where the main cast died, I think fairy tail would hit a new level cause struggle in the protagonist’s side adds more color to the show. Naruto tried to do that with Neji but neji also didn’t get that much screen time either to really shake it up for the audience.
Yea, shounen has less bloodshed and death. Although not as much as some other shows, one piece has some element of death incorporated. Granted luffy himself doesn’t really kill, others such as Zoro have killed. Happy themes are the point of shounen and I stopped watching anime and got into manga and light novels cause I wanted something more unique and darker. Light novels and manga have been amazing since they explore more extreme themes and protagonists.
I think the main reason for that is the anime itself since Mashima himself stated he was hesitant to kill off characters due to a previous series of his where he did just that. That kind of set the standard for fairy tail lacking in deaths of villains with little exceptions.
