I can't help but wonder if Derek took it upon himself to find out whether or not Islinda is human without Valerie's knowledge or permission. He's extremely protective of the prince, after all. Also, I feel as though Valerie would not have approved of Islinda receiving an injury for proof one way or the other.

She has no empathy, either. If Issac was the one pursuing Anya, and Anya wasn't interested, what would HER reaction have been if Issac had pulled such a stunt?! I think it would have been something like:
