That’s a really good point! The Pope wants to wield Riftan’s leash. But I bet people might come to the conclusion that if the blade is restored, god has chosen Riftan and he might end up wielding more power than the Pope himself, who was chosen by clerics.

So *thats* how they were able to do everything to cause the war. They literally infiltrated and worked as spies in the basilica.
