Coming from a place of neglect, I think Maxi is waiting for the other shoe to fall. It feels to good to be true. She doesn't understand why someone would have this behavior towards her. It is foreign to her. It doesn't feel natural. Her father only did lavish things to appeal to the eyes of the public, so it's more like: Is it pity, because I am worthless? Why are you doing this? What purpose does it serve? How can some love so much? Is it real? Am I dreaming? Will I awake to the hardships I have always known? This is beautiful. I am scared. Please don't make it go away, I like it to much. Please love even though I feel like I am nothing. Will you change if I do something you don't like? She has to learn to trust because everyone she has known was untrustworthy in the past. She has to come into herself before she can accept others, which is hard to do when it is foreign to you. This is the way I perceived it .
