They didn't talk again for the rest of the week after that brief call. Eli immediately started using the new codename for Harper's project — strictly for the private blocks on his calendar that were visible to only himself, of course — and every time the perfect title popped up on his screen, it would bring a smile to his face and remind him to check his phone, in the hopes that Harper would think of something else amazing to ask him or tease him with. Soon, the habit evolved into a constant expecting glance at the blank screen, in frequencies that increased steadily from a few times a day to a few times an hour. - Stevers12hCommented

Eli set his phone on his desk and ran a hand down his face. Fuck. As he placed the order for desserts, he wondered if it'd really be so bad to just skip straight to the bill and run.

She would've been a hundred percent his type a few years ago — tall, curvy, wavy blonde hair with sharply lined eyes. He had always been into blondes with a mature, polished look like this. But now, even as he looked at her, all he was thinking in his head was a slender frame, warm auburn curls, dark emerald green eyes with only the lightest dusting of eyeshadow. Height just enough to reach his shoulders, breasts the perfect size to fit in the cup of his hands—

Honestly, he looked ridiculous, but the request was for him to take this date seriously, so he took the message to heart. No one could argue that such a funeral-fitting look wasn't "serious".

"It's alright, I'll send it in for cleaning tomorrow." Eli took the suit from her. Hopefully the cleaners could save it — he had gotten this new set tailored specifically for the evening, and he would've preferred to keep it as a piece of memento. But considering it had served good purpose in keeping Harper from getting completely drenched by the rain, any damage would be worth it.
