he’s not unreasonable with his anger. only a person who loves life would be thankful to have been saved. as he mentioned, he’d rather die than become whatever he thought ruth did to him. he doesn’t love life, he has nothing worth living for at that point, and he (mistakenly) thought ruth made him a monster. he wished he was dead.
