Every star exists while balancing tw forces, the exploding due to chemical reactions and the imploding due to extreme gravity. When a star "dies" one of these 2 forces overwhelms the other, if explosion wins then the star goes supernova, but if the implosion wins then it either becomes a white dwarf or a black hole. Im guessing that this star somehow regained equilibrim just before it exploded/imploded
The Demon Abyss was a giant hole in space with a massive star inside it.
