Poor girl. This was probably the scariest and most distressing thing to happen her in a long time. I doubt monster encounters, scary as they are, are worse than the return of fear of being harm by powerful men. Riftan makes her feel safe, though, so it's understandable she wants him to stay with her.

I wouldn't call Maxi's actions hypocritical so much as maturing. At the time she asked Riftan, she didn't have a proper grasp of the gravity of the situation. Her attempt to stop Idsilla now shows that it is no longer the case, and she better understands why Riftan couldn't allow her to come.
