Still don't understand the regret of defending himself? maybe he feels a bit of remorse or compassion for hurting someone aswell. But if you 'Regret' defending yourself that means in the future you won't defened yourself at all bc you'll think about not wanting to 'Regret' defending yourself again.

Feel like he freaking out about the wrong things. Such as a random physics test from school. It's not like you're gonna be kicked out of school for being jumped and beaten by fellow school mates. Get a note, receipt whatever from the doctor and explain it to the school they will let you take it after you get out of the hospital? Feel like he could have used the day in the hospital to calm down and Think/plan his future course and actions. Instead of thinking oh I have to Sneak out and Escape this hospital like it's a prison because I might miss my physics test, OH NO!
