Au contraire, I think she's doing the right thing. If rumors were to spread that Cassandra and "Ed" had an affair, it would jeopardize her future marriage. So not only would she loose the chance to get out of the palace, her life would be worse because 1) she wouldn't have the protection this engagement brought her anymore and 2) people would see her as a loose woman, on top of being powerless.

What I'm wondering is why doesn't the Emperor reign in his wife and daughter? There may be a hierarchy but the princesses are still his children. It's weird the Empress can kill them as she pleases. Not to mention, apart from Cassandra, the mothers of the princesses are from prominent familles... Would they not object as well?

It's a little weird though that the Empress see Cassandra as extremely beautiful, but when C. reads people's minds, they see her as pretty at best. Like, make it make sense.
